This infant swing provides all of the comfort and entertainment your baby needs. It’s a bestseller for a reason!

You’ll find that the swing has a side-to-side rocking motion, but offers six different speeds so you’ll find the perfect setting for your new bundle of joy.

New parents will have peace of mind with the 5-point harness and other safety features that this Graco baby swing has.

  • A 5-point harness keeps your child secure

Swings are expensive and your baby isn’t in them for hours and hours. I would spend the extra money on organic crib sheets over a bouncer or swing.

4moms Mamaroo

Last up on the list of the best baby swings is the mamaRoo® 4 multi-motion baby swing.

This swing is not meant for older children. What it lacks in longevity it more than makes up for in other areas.

Instead of traditional swing motions, this swing mimics the feeling of rocking your baby in your arms.

There are five unique motions and five speeds so your baby will feel soothed with at least one of the combinations.

Another one of the main differences this swing has, that traditional swings don’t, is that it is Bluetooth enabled. You can control your baby’s swing from your phone. These features make this swing one of the best swings for you and your baby.

4 Things To Look For In A Baby Swing

Now that you have a starting point. It’s time to look a little closer at the specs of nontoxic baby swings and bouncers to ensure that both you and your baby will approve.

When looking for a new swing or bouncer you want to keep in mind what aesthetic you are wanting.

Are you on the hunt for a certain theme that you are using for your nursery? Do you want something fun and playful or calm and neutral? Elements like the fabric and any accessories/toys or music included are great things to look at during this decision.

If you don’t have much space, or travel a lot and want something easy to take along, you want to consider that when looking at baby swings. You’ll want to focus your attention on the smaller-sized swings and bouncers.

Weight Restrictions and Height Restrictions

When considering what nontoxic baby swing to purchase you want to think of the present and the future.

Pay close attention to the weight limit on the swings and bouncers you look at. Then figure out which one will last you the longest and allow your baby to grow into it if that is something you are interested in.

Some swings have heigh restrictions too. You might not need to check these when buying but it’s good to know them so you know when to stop using your swing.

There are a few nontoxic materials, like organic cotton, that are a must for baby swings.

However, other materials should absolutely not be associated with the baby swing, especially non-toxic baby swings.

Knowing where your materials are coming from matters. There have been many toxic chemicals connected to things like cancer, development delays, and more:

  • Flame retardants (should always be avoided, exposures immediately show up in the bloodstream and urine)
  • Polyurethane foam (they off-gas and can contain harmful chemicals)
  • BPA, BPA Substitutes, and PVC (from plastic)
  • Phthalates (used as a plastic softener in plastic products)

This is the reason you want to avoid plastics, non-organic foams, flame retardants, chemically treated products, and more.

Now that you are well versed in what a non-toxic baby swing is, and you most likely have a few ideas of what you are getting, you may have a few more questions. Here are a few of the most common questions that parents have when shopping for a baby swing.

When is the best time to use a baby swing or bouncer? (age and weight ranges)

There are many different models of baby swings and bouncers, and they all have their own specifications.

It is best to check your user manual to get a sense of when it’s time to stop using a swing or bouncer.

How should I use a baby swing?

To use the baby swing safely, you’ll want to make sure that of a few things:

  • The baby swing or bouncer is sturdy (this is the best way to avoid an accident).
  • The baby fits comfortably in the swing or bouncer (make sure the straps fit well and your baby fits comfortably in the swing or bouncer).
  • If your baby is under four months old you want the swing to be in the most reclined position to avoid injury and provide the support your baby needs.

Can babies sleep in a swing?

It is best that babies should not sleep in a swing, or any upright position.

This VeryWell Family article states that “babies are at risk any time they’re placed to sleep somewhere that isn’t a flat, firm surface.”

Once you notice your baby has fallen asleep in a swing you’ll want to move him or her to sleep somewhere that is flat. This will give you peace of mind by reducing the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

You should never leave your baby unattended in a swing. They should always be supervised when using these devices.

How long should a baby stay in a swing?

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, your baby should only have swing time for about an hour a day.

While that may not seem like a long time, the risks of prolonged swing usage is something you have to consider.

By keeping your baby in a swing or a bouncer for longer periods of time they may not only have developmental delays but they could also get diagnosed with plagiocephaly. This is also known as the flattening of a baby’s head. This article has more information about those risks.

How many do I need?

You really only need one swing or bouncer, or both if you are getting a combo. Having a smaller more portable swing could be ideal if you travel a lot though.

For instance, if you are going back and forth between your home and another caregiver’s home, a small portable swing might be a better pick unless you want to buy two.

Another thing to consider is where you will use it and the floors in your home. If you spend a lot of time upstairs and downstairs you might want more than one option so you can have one in each space.

Of course, this is absolutely not necessary and is dependent on your, your budget, and your preferences!

In Summary: Non Toxic Baby Swing Picks

As you can see there are many good non toxic baby swing options for your baby. They vary in size and price, so you can pick the right one for your baby and the space you have. Enjoy that sweet baby!

I see you recommended the 4moms MamaRoo swing. Were you able to find a source that stated it's polyester parts were not coated with flame retardant? I love the product but need to ensure it won't be toxic with stuff like phthalates, nasty plastics, etc.

Could you please tell me what materials are used in the Graco simple sway? I’m unable to find any mention of what materials are used and if they are in fact certified non toxic/ oeko tex? Thank you

Hi! Yes I just reached out to the manufacturer to double check the information. The seat is polyester but it does not contain added flame retardants which is huge in terms of being non-toxic. Unfortunately I was not able to find any organic cotton material at a price point close to the Graco one. If you are looking for someone that is okeo-tex certified one or similar, I would pick the Nuna Leaf, the Coco Lounger, or the Baby Bjorn. I updated the post to reflect this!
