The holiday of love is coming up. That’s right, it’s time to decide how you plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year. I’ll admit, in years past I’ve been somewhat of a Valentine’s Day Scrooge. In the past year or two I’ve warmed up to the holiday all about love.
I’ve learned that it doesn’t have to be all about couples. It can be a day about showing love to those you care about, and to yourself. That is what I’m sharing with you today, the different ways that you can spend Valentine’s Day in your thirties for any stage of life.
How To Celebrate Valentine’s Day In Your 30s
Whether you are having a traditional Valentine’s Day with your significant other, spending the day solo, or something in between, I’ve got some ideas for you.
When You’re In A Relationship
When you think of how to celebrate Valentine’s Day you picture these big romantic gestures and couples out to dinner celebrating their love. While I love a big romantic gesture as much as the next girl, I think there is something to be said for the simple, but thought out celebrations as well. No matter what your preference is, here’s a mix of ideas to get you started.
- Gifts Representing The Years You’ve Been Together: This one is a fun one to do if you’ve been together for a few years. Basically you want to pick a gift that represents something from a corresponding year. For example, if you both went to see a lot of live shows the second year in your relationship, concert tickets would make a great gift.
- Get Whisked Away: Get away from the hustle and bustle by going somewhere just the two of you. Whether it’s just Valentine’s night or maybe the weekend, the time together is sure to be special.
- Romantic Meal At Home: All the restaurants are most likely going to be crowded, so why not make a romantic meal at home? You can decorate the house with flowers, candles, and photos of you two, and serve your favorite food.
- Recreate Your First Date: Take a trip down memory lane by recreating your first date to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Reminisce on the memories and dream up what you want the future to look like as a couple.
- Do Your Favorite Activities Together: There is so much joy in seeing someone you love doing something that lights them up. Spend the day, or night, taking turns at doing activities that each of you enjoys, and maybe end with an activity that you both love.
With Your Kids
It’s so fun to experience holidays through a child’s eyes, and Valentine’s Day is no different. It’s a great time to teach them the importance of loving one another and being kind to people. Here are some great ways to spend and celebrate Valentine’s Day with your kiddos. If you want even more ideas check out this post.
- Read A Valentine’s Day Book: If your child loves reading books, or being read to, pick out a Valentine’s themed book and read with them.
- Host A Valentine’s Day Party Together: This is a fun hands on activity to do with your child(ren). Invite some family and friends over and help your kid(s) create some Love Day decorations and bake some heart-shaped treats.
- Make Dinner For Dad: Making dinner for dad is a great way to get your kid(s) involved in celebrating Valentine’s Day as a family. They’ll love getting to do something for daddy and you’ll have the memories of making a lovely meal with them.
- Valentine’s Day Crafts: There are so many different Valentine’s day crafts and printables out there that you and your child(ren) can enjoy together. A quick Google or Pinterest search will give you a ton of options that will keep your kiddo(s) entertained all day.
- What I Love About You Game: I think that this is such a cute game to play with your little one(s). It’s a great mood booster for you and it will make them feel great too. Basically all you need to do is go back and forth sharing what you love about each other. Get as heartwarming, or as silly, as you want, and see what they say about you.
If You Are Spending The Day With Friends
Typically, spending time with the girlies is reserved for Galentine’s Day, which is February 13. If you are single and don’t want to be alone on Valentine’s Day, I say it’s perfectly okay to spend the day with friends. There are a ton of fun activities that you can do with them. So, let’s explore these friend-group options to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
- Have Brunch: Brunch is a great way to spend time with your friends and catch up on life. Give it a little Valentine’s Day theme and remember to show your ladies how much you love them and you are all set.
- Have A Rom-Com Marathon: In the past I was very much anti-romance on Valentine’s Day, but I can’t deny how great rom-coms are. They are best watched with friends so that you can oooooh and ahhhhh, and even cry, at all the romantic scenes.
- Do a Photoshoot: If you are wanting to do something fun and different with your friends to celebrate Valentine’s Day, a photoshoot is a great option. Get dressed up in red and pink, find a location and photographer, and have fun! I recommend taking a mix of posed cute photos and fun candid shots.
- Take A Day Trip Somewhere: Spending the day in a different city is a fun way to spend and celebrate Valentine’s Day with friends. Whether it’s a planned trip, or picked randomly, you are sure to have a great time.
- DIY At Home Spa Day: Have the ultimate self care relaxation day by bringing the spa to your home. This is a great group activity because you can each give each other mani/pedis, spend time chatting, and have the best time.
When You Are By Yourself
Lastly, us single people deserve to have some fun and celebrate Valentine’s Day too. Don’t let the hype of it being a couples holiday stop you from enjoying yourself and showing yourself some love. Here are some ways to do just that.
- Go On A Solo Date: Go do something fun by yourself and enjoy your own company. We love solo dates here and find so many benefits to them.
- Write A Letter To Yourself: Love notes never go out of style in my opinion. Spend some time on Valentine’s Day writing yourself one. Fill it with what you love about yourself, your hopes for the year, and anything else you want to include. Then decide if you want to open it at a later date.
- Buy Yourself Flowers: We should get gifts to celebrate Valentine’s Day too. If flowers aren’t your thing, buy yourself something else.
- Take A Relaxing Bath: Take the ultimate bath by including all the self care goodies, dressing it up with flowers, lighting candles around the room, and bringing some form of entertainment with you. You won’t want to leave the tub.
- Dress Up “Just Because”: I’m a firm believer in dressing up in something pretty for no reason at all. It’s a fun way to spend your time and it gives you an excuse to buy a cute outfit. Try it out for yourself to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year.
