Caraway Cookware Review 2023

Wondering if the Caraway Cookware is worth it? Here’s my Caraway Cookware Review after almost 2 years of near daily use.

Oh Caraway, beautiful Caraway. I bought my first Caraway product in the fall of 2021 and now I own all of them. Seriously, nearly every product is in my kitchen right now. And I use them on a daily basis.

So how do I like them? How do they hold up? Are they really worth the money? Let’s dig into it all. And if you have more questions, leave them in the comments – I’m happy to share my experience.

Who is Caraway?

Caraway is a non-stick cookware brand that uses a non-toxic coating in their beautiful cookware.

I love their commitment to health as they maintain the ease of non-stick cookware. There’s a reason non-stick is so popular but traditional coatings have their issues.

Caraway’s mission is four-fold. They aim to have…

  • No Harmful Chemicals: Their ceramic-coated, aluminum-based cookware is third party tested to be free of PFOA, PTFE (like Teflon), lead, and cadmium.
  • Eco-friendly: The manufacturing process of their cookware uses 60% less carbon dioxide than other non-stick coatings that are available on the market.
  • Sustainably-packaged: Their packaging does not use any single-use plastic at all!. It is made from recycled cardboard — and that also includes the biodegradable cork trivets! Very cool.
  • Ethical manufacturing: They support BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) and SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) certified manufacturing partners – you love to hear it.

What I personally like about Caraway:

Here’s my experience with using the Caraway pans. And what I consider to be the pros:

So the first thing that I love about the Caraway pans is the look. Stunning.

I think they are really dreamy (I have the cream and sage Cookware sets, the navy Bakeware Set, the cream Tea Kettle, the navy Minis Duo, and the mist Food Storage Set).

This makes them beautiful to have on the counters and to cook with. It’s a small thing but it actually makes me want to cook more.

The sides of the pan are glossy and have an attractive look to them. They definitely are as Instagram-worthy as they look online.

And not that I need it by any means, but I definitely have my eye on the midnight copper set… because, swoon.

They are easy to clean.

I also typically use my non-stick pans over my other pans. They are just easier to cook with and easier to clean. Which is great when you have little kids to take care of as well.

Cleaning after cooking is something I DREAD. It’s my job in our house to take care of the dishes and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it that I can clean them super quickly and easily no matter what I’ve made.

They can’t go in the dishwasher because it breaks down the non-stick coating. It’s almost a bummer but honestly they are so easy to clean it’s not a big deal. Promise.

The sets now also come with a magic eraser-type sponge that is made to keep the outside of your pans looking beautiful as well.

That was a complaint many customers had (especially if you didn’t clean the outside of your pans well enough), there would be stains. But no more! The sponge cleans everything.

I don’t even mind washing them. Seriously they are that easy to clean.

The Cookware Set contains everything I need as a home chef.

I hate kitchen clutter. Like actually really hate it. I have a box of things for donation I keep in my garage that we very frequently add things into if I find we are not using them that much.

These pans are always in my rotation. The set comes with 4 pans:

  • 10.5 inch fry pan
  • 3 quart sauce pan
  • 4.5 quart saute pan (my most used)
  • 6.5 quart dutch oven

It also comes with:

  • 3 lids
  • 4 magnetic pan racks
  • A canvas lid holder
  • 2 hooks (for the lid holder)
  • 2 two cork trivets

I use the saute pan the most simply because I like the size of it.

I also have the minis and typically use those when I’m heating up stuff for just myself – like leftover soup for lunch or a two-egg omelet in the morning.

They are oven safe.

I used to avoid recipes that had to go from the stove to the oven because non of my pans (other than my cast iron) could do that. But not anymore!

Now I find these so recipes so easy to do. I especially love one pot/pan meals that are finished off in the oven. Truly genius.

They come with storage.

And the storage fits perfectly in my cabinet. Seriously I can’t make this up. The pans go in my island under my stove and they’re really easy to reach for and I love that for me.

If I had the set up I’d even keep them on my counter because they’re so beautiful. Especially if I had a set from the Iconics collection because… swoon.

The magnetic storage is great because it really holds the pan in place. It’s not really something I thought I needed until I had it.

They heat up quickly.

The pans heat up within a couple of minutes which is really nice. I don’t even use them over high heat (typically low-medium) to help retain their coatings.

What I don’t like about Caraway:

I honestly had to really think about what I don’t like about the Caraway pots and pans. But I did come up with a few things to keep in mind if these might be deal breakers.

The handles can get hot.

I find this mostly the case if something (like my favorite white chicken chili from Half Baked Harvest) is simmering for a while but it’s never been enough to burn me or hurt me. Just be aware it can happen.

You have to be mindful of the heat.

It’s typical with non-stick coatings but you shouldn’t cook above medium heat. Doing so can breakdown the non-stick coating.

The Price

Caraway likes to say this is a many piece set but in my mind you’re getting 4 pans.

It retails for for $545 but is on the site for $395. So essentially it’s almost $100/pan. That’s definitely pricey.

I don’t think it’s too extreme personally. I recently bought another kitchen pan for $300 and that is a single pan without any additional bonuses like a pot lid holder so take that for what you will.

It’s an investment for sure, but one that I think has been worth it. I also love the Bakeware and use that just as much.

The dream, dreamy storage

Another con is that once you have one thing from Caraway, you’re going to want them all. Trust me, I know.

I’ve also gifted many Caraway pieces to family over the years.

What to know about the non-stick coating:

One thing I enjoy about Caraway is that their committment to prioritizing a non-toxic non-stick coating on their cookware.

Non-stick cookware is so convenient to use. However, studies have found that the chemicals used (like PTFE) can have harmful effects on the human body.

Included in that are PFOA and PTFE that begin to breakdown at higher temperatures and leach into your food.

Once this research was done, we started to see change in the cookware industry – like with what Caraway is doing., there are still products that exist with these chemicals – so be mindful of what you buy.

Caraway has done their due diligence to make sure none of these harmful chemicals are in their cookware and that they don’t leech into your food.

Caraway’s cookware has an aluminized steel core that is coated using the sol-gel process (which involves a process of activation, filtration, surface preparation, and application) to form a ceramic coating that includes 5-15% silicon composition.

I’ve asked about their 3rd party tests and the results are hereherehere, and hereThis way you can see for yourself that their coatings are non-toxic and make a decision for yourself.

Have they held up over time?

I have two sets because after purchasing one, months later Caraway offered to send me one and I couldn’t pas up the opportunity.

And my answer is yes they have held up. I use at least one pan daily (the dutch oven is probably my least-used), but they all still look great on the inside and the outside.

I’ve had these sage pans since fall 2021 and they work perfectly still.

In Summary: Caraway Cookware Review 2023

As a mom who cooks 5-6 days per week for a family of four… I love these pans. I definitely think there are some cons but overall I love them and find the conveniences to be worth any potential downsides.

I’ve bought them once and I would do it again. If you want to start with something, I would pick the saute pan but honestly getting the set is the best deal.
